A Plural Leadership: Elders

The congregation at Rideauview Bible Chapel is led by a team of Elders. They take responsibility for the church’s spiritual oversight, vision and direction. This includes overseeing the teaching, pastoral and evangelism activities.  The word ‘elder’ is a New Testament word used to describe the spiritual leadership of the local church. Below are photos of the elders with their wives who support them in this role.

Dave and Jill Black

Dave and Jill have been active at Rideauview for over 25 years. Dave is originally from Cochrane in northern Ontario. After finishing university in Toronto Dave joined the federal government where he continues to work in the information technology sector. Jill grew up in Winchester Ontario. She currently works for Christian Horizons an organization dedicated to the care of the disabled in group homes. Happily married in 1986, and passionate about their covenant commitments, they serve the Lord along with their two adult children.

Brian and Nancy Foreman

Brian grew up at Rideauview. After graduating from Carleton University in 1973, he studied for two years at Institut Emmaus, a Bible college in Switzerland. From there he served the Lord Jesus Christ in France for over 15 years. Since returning to Canada in November of 1992, Brian has been working in the federal government and serving at Rideauview in different roles. Originally from Chicago, after graduating from Hope College, Nancy studied for one year at Culver City Bible School in Los Angeles before joining Brian in the Lord’s work in France. In addition to being active at Rideauview, Nancy works in federal government as a plain language specialist. Brian and Nancy first met on a summer mission’s trip to France in 1971 with International Teams. They were married in 1979 and have 4 adult children, three of whom are married with children.

In order to allow the elders to give themselves to prayer and the ministry of  the Word of God as a priority, (Acts 6:1-4), Rideauview has a team of deacons to manage the material assets of the church, including the distribution of funds to the Lord’s work and those in need, as well as looking after the building.

Our deacons (Left to Right) are: Tom Brown, George Wilson, Phil Priddle, Mike Beckwith and Dave Boulard.

A plural leadership: College and Careers

George Barrett: George is a man of many passions - hockey, swing dance, beat boxing, and jumping really high just to name a few. However, the passion that rises above the rest is his desire to see young people know and love Christ. He's returning to Carleton in the fall and is looking forward to his third year of marriage to Becky.

Becky Barrett: Rideauview has been Becky's stomping grounds since a young age and her involvement is nothing new but now she and her husband George are excited to continue that journey by serving the young people of C&C together. Becky loves her job as a nurse at the Civic Hospital, is always up for a good laugh and a chat over coffee.

Rachel Black:  Among her friends, Rachel is known for her generousity, kindness, and awesome culinary skills. C&C has been lucky to benefit from these and all her other gifts. Rachel has been attending Rideuaview for, well, basically her whole life! She has a real passion to see Rideauview shine the Light of Christ into the world. Rachel loves her job of teaching art to adults with developmental disabilities, and is always up to doing something fun... especially if it involves sports and loud cheering.

Ryan Black: While his immense height is a great attribute, it is not the only thing that defines this upstanding young man. A Carleton student with a year of Bible College under his belt, Ryan is excited to serve God through a leadership role at C&C. Ryan is an outdoorsman and theologian at heart, but is also kept busy watching his fiancee, Jenna, plan their wedding.

Jenna Peck: Jenna is a recent transplant to Ottawa and Rideauview is glad to have her. Jenna has completed 2 years of Bible College, and is currently working for Elections Ontario, trying to keep democracy running. Jenna has a passion for the Lord and music, and her skills will be put to good use this year. Along with all the business of general life, Jenna is also busy planning her upcoming wedding to Ryan... Yay!

A plural leadership: Youth Group

Sarah Hasler: Sarah grew up in Kitchener, Ontario and moved to Ottawa for school in 2005. She has enjoyed working with the youth at Rideauview for the past four years, and has also involved with Galilee Bible Camp. She is a nurse for the Ottawa Hospital.

A plural leadership: Missionary Committee

Together, they receive communication from missionaries and put together a monthly digest to inform the church on any missionary news. They also meet together to discuss financial needs and any changes to financial distribution to the missionaries. Current members are: Elva Beckwith, Adam Milling, Anne Markey, Keith Blair and a number of others who help in various roles.
